Welcome to the Irish Institute of Cognitive & Humanistic Psychotherapy

The Institute was founded in 1991 initially to establish professional standards and to offer training in counselling, hypnotherapy and NLP (Neurolinguistic Programming). This role was then passed to the training organisation, IICH Education.

Since its inception, IICH has delivered foundation training and two-year and, subsequently, three-year diploma courses in counselling and psychotherapy and also Practitioner courses in behavioural medicine.

Recently, the Membership voted to change the name of the professional body to Irish Institute of Cognitive & Humanistic Psychotherapy (IICHP) to better reflect the widening scope in practice of our Members in recent years.

Graduate and student members of IICHP are required to be in ongoing clinical supervision and to engage in continuing professional development (CPD) to familiarise themselves with current developments in clinical practice. Members must also carry public liability and professional indemnity insurance as a requirement for professional practice.

Many IICHP members have specialist training and qualifications in areas such as bereavement, family therapy, couple counselling, addictions, post-traumatic stress, and life and business coaching.
